Kedai Makanan Sinki

Every time my flight arrives the airport right before dinner time, we would make a detour into Dengkil town. As this restaurant is situated along the main road (they are diagonally opposite the primary school) and do not have proper parking available, we try to get there before the dinner crowd to increase our chances of getting a spot (for our car and also for ourselves at the restaurant).

They do not take very long to serve their food and every time, we would order the same dishes. For greens, we would normally order a dish of paku (ferns) stir-fried with dried shrimp, chilli and garlic (RM10/AUD3.40). Crunchy and fragrant every time.

One of their specialty dishes is the steamed fishball with tofu (which price I do not recall). The base of the dish is lettuce and is garnished with fried onions and chopped shallots. I enjoy the bouncy texture of the fishball and the smoothness of the tofu. Unique combination of ingredients, in my opinion.

Their deep fried grouper in spicy sauce (market price) comes swimming in sauce made of minced bean paste, minced garlic, bird's eye chilli, red chilli and spring onion. Super crunchy on the outside and occasionally, tender on the inside. I say occasionally because there were times when it was over fried, which left the flesh too dry and a chore to chew.

Another dish they are famous for is their "har lok" prawns (market price against number of prawns). These are no ordinary prawns - I mistook them for lobsters the first time I had them. These are giant freshwater prawns aka "big head prawns". When fresh, this dish is stellar but when not so fresh, this dish is just average. The sauce is sweet (dark soy sauce) and makes sucking the head of the prawns a very sinful activity.

Despite its popularity, I find that they are inconsistent with the quality of their cooking and they could do with a makeover of their restaurant. Worth a try, still, so if you do plan to go, just remember that parking is limited and if you love your air-condition, the air-conditioned room has only three tables.
